An Introduction and an Invitation
It's perhaps not surprising that not many people know much about Kazkhstan. For decades, it was part of the Soviet Union, but in more recent years has grown with the importation of oil.
Not being known is a liability, but it can also be an opportunity to introduce yourself to the world. Without a well-known narrative, a country has the opportunity to share itself to the world in a modern way.
Charming hosts seem very eager to share the various aspects of their country to a new audience. Guests were clearly so enthralled with the contents, however, that our guides had to diplomatically encourage us to move on to the next presentation to make room for more visitors.
Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan since 1997, will be hosting the next world's fair (the smaller-sized Expo 2017) and much of the pavilion was clearly meant as an invitation to visit their new capital for its 20th anniversary party.
